Running Down The Sundown

about

I wrote this song many years ago. In fact, I used to play it with a band called Lojack in the mid '90s. By the time I got around to recording this version it was 2005, by which time I had used a variation of the tune (with different words) in an Off-Broadway musical called The Magical Forest of Baba Yaga, staged at Urban Stages on W. 30th St. in NYC.

So the A capella verse that ends the song was tagged onto the 90s rock version of the song, after the tune had done the rounds in the world of musical theater.

Anyway, I felt it was time to post this track to Bandcamp. I had it on Soundcloud for many years, but stopped paying for their pro tier and it got deleted from their platform. So, here it is again in all it's mid-90s rock glory!

lyrics

Running down the sundown
sky and sea are one.
Chasing vague chimeras
through the dawn.

Hope and fear are phantoms
hollow as the moon;
hollow as the moon
that goads the tides

I'm losing sight
of the future and the past
I can almost see right now
run by me like a thief

You'l never hear the names
of the ones who didn't try
but you often hear them sing
of the few who did and died

Hope and fear are phantoms
hollow as the moon;
hollow as the moon
that goads the tides

Running down the sundown
sky and sea are one.
Chasing vague chimeras
through the dawn.

I'm losing sight
of the future and the past
I can almost see right now
run by me like a thief

You'l never hear the names
of the ones who didn't try
but you often hear them sing
of the few who did and died.

In the unborn stillness
Footprints and pawprints
trace the trail of a slug
to the final hours
of a fool on the run

La da dee dahh

I'm losing sight
of the future and the past
I can almost see right now
run by me like a thief

You'l never hear the names
of the ones who didn't try
but you often hear them sing
of the few who did and died.

In the unborn stillness
Footprints and pawprints
trace the trail of a slug
to the final hours
of a fool on the run

Hope is stronger than an ocean
and deeper than a well
Could it be the magic potion
that breaks the spell

about

Crush Limbo North Bergen, New Jersey

Crush Limbo is the stage name of NY-NJ-based musician Colm Clark.

It's bedroom pop meets Tin Pan Alley -- a world where glam gets it on with André Popp, teasing midlife symphonies from tear-shaped guordalins.

And in the grand tradition of Sondheim, Wonder, Bowie, and the Beatles — melody is key, baby, and tunes are where it's at.
